Delays, delays
January 3, 2009

A brand new year and I'm starting it out by delaying the next release of Big$hot by another couple of days. I thought I was being overly careful yesterday when I decided to play the full version of Big$hot through one last time before release... and I found some more things in the deal system that I just can't live with. The only good news in this long delayed release is that the press hasn't really picked Big$hot up yet so it's well worth holding on to the game for a few extra days to get everything just right.

The deal making system is a little complicated for some people to grasp in the first place so any improvements that I can make are well worth it or some people are going to not like using this feature at all. The deal making system gets invoked when you or an AI offer a deal to each other. A dialog pops up with the left hand side populated with details about your cash and properties with check marks beside all offered properties. The sum of the equity in all properties, plus cash offered, is totalled and displayed at the bottom of your assets with a cash offered adjustment gizmo shown at the top. Same thing on the right hand side for the deal package the AI is offering to you. Deals can be adjusted by clicking and unclicking offered properties and also changing the cash amount being offered by each party. Seems as simple as it can be given what is being accomplished. The problem lies in the fact that when an AI offers you a deal the deal is locked so you can only review and accept or decline the deal. I've decided that it would be a lot more clear if all offered properties were listed first and, if the deal can't be adjusted, all other properties listed below should be greyed out. Simple enough but it still needs to be implemented and tested out a few more times before being released. Hopefully I don't find anything more to fix.

The next blog entry should get back to the conclusion of the Data Lump system. Have a good weekend,
L
