Terrace is Hockeyville!
March 7th, 2009

With the Canucks on an unholy tear this past month I settled in last night to watch them take on the powerful San Jose Sharks. The Canucks have been stymied by the Sharks in the past two years and any hope that they have of going all the way this year almost certainly involves them taking out both the Sharks and the Red Wings who, as of this writing, share top spot in the Western Conference. A very tall order. But the Canucks have been playing very well since Luongo has gotten back into form from his two month long groin injury and the addition of Mats Sundin, while not yet everything we might have hoped for, has been an upgrade. Any time you can add a player of his calibre in exchange for taking off the weakest player from your team and you are bound to get better. This new lineup has, since a brutal streak in January, been the hottest team in the NHL.

Our son Theodoric has been taking care of the neighbours dog for the past couple of days as our lucky neighbours had landed some tickets to the game and flown down to Vancouver to watch. Nice! Theodoric and Boadicea have been in 7th heaven - as my mother would have said - taking care of and playing with the big Golden Labrador named Cedar that lives next door. I was supposed to be watching the stands during the game to see if I could see our neighbours who were going to be sporting a Hockeyville sign in case our little town beat all the other towns across our country and won this years contest. The announcements was to be made between first and second periods by the much maligned head honcho of the NHL, Gary Bettman.

While not an easy guy to like I think he has taken a lot of heat in exchange for doing a great job for the league. Canadian hockey is now far stronger due to the new CBA that was hammered out three years ago so that all teams are on the same financial footing. But the guy can sure drag things out but he eventually got to the announcement. As you might have guessed from the title of this blog entry... Terrace is hockeyville. Terrace hockey will receive 100K to spend on our hockey rink and we will be hosting a pre-season Canucks game next Fall. Wahoo!!! Boadicea was there watching the game with me and was ecstatic. A very happy moment. Here's a link: Terrace is Hockeyville!

Peace,
L.
