As the weeks of tuning Big$hot have become months I've started to slide into regular game developer hours. Regular as in roll out of the rack 10ish and then poke and tweak the game until late in the evening before knocking off. Rinse, repeat.
For a programmer of my advancing years this has a few problems - not the least of which is that I can't go directly from programming to sleeping. Last night I decided to wind down with the latest DVD that Zip.ca has sent our way, a tribute concert to Leonard Cohen entitled "I'm Your Man".
To be honest, while I've read about Leonard Cohen, I'm not that familiar with his actual music. My take, after watching the movie and then re-watching several of the performances a few times, is that this is a terrific way to get to know somebody whose singing isn't going to be immediately accessible to everyone but whose songwriting is, on the songs I heard last night, something special. Teddy Thompson's performance of Tonight Will Be Fine
in particular, knocks my socks off.
Well, enough gabbing from me, time to figure out why the AI's have decided not to be sending the player deals and to polish a few last bits. It's day by day on first release of Big$hot and I'm getting excited. The past few weeks have had moments of real gratification as I've watched game features go from being implemented theory to, hey now, that's pretty fun. Bill juggling so that I can acquire and improve auction properties to block competitor monopoly building while economic cycles cause me to go to the brink - and sometimes over - of foreclosure while waiting for the economy to turn... Hrm, this is beginning to sound topical.
