There's been a TLC festival going on around here lately. Theodoric stayed up way past his bedtime on Thursday night (because we live in Terrace it was a non-school night) watching me battle to level 21 in TLC. The next morning he told me that he had gotten up and played to 22 which turns out to be an end game boss level featuring an ogre (500hp), a dark knight (1000hp), a lion (1500hp) and, inexplicably, Santa (2000hp). Each of these guys does an immense amount of castle damage and I wasn't able to beat them in a couple games on Friday nor in the game I squeezed in on Saturday.
Today at lunch Evaric announced that he had beaten the game by pushing his cottage production up to 50 units and also using excess cash to repair the castle quickly when Santa and the Lion inevitably get through - sure enough, using this formula, I was able to beat the game after lunch as well. I had been hoarding spare land and not pushing my production past 25-30 and this was a mistake because it meant that I couldn't push up my pub's (they give you extra damage) because you only get 1 pub for every 10 cottages. I also found that I could mostly skip the iron towers and didn't buy any arches to increase distance. As it turns out powering through with lots of damage and cheap arrow towers can take you a long way until you can afford to get lots of fire towers and pick up an interval decreasing church or two.
I Played a couple of online games of poker last night and they weren't even as fun. The lost Castle (Reiner's capitalization) is a classic. Alaric is pushing me to drop Big$hot and go straight to a tower defense inspired version of Battle Castles II for which I've been noodling with a design since the middle of last summer. Tempting...
